About

Family Promise of Monmouth County, an affiliate of national Family Promise, works with community agencies, faith-based services, churches and synagogues to provide shelter, food, transportation and supportive services including case management for homeless families.

Tara L. Maffei, MSW, is the Director of Family Promise of Monmouth County.

Tara originally began her first non-profit, The Bottomless Closet of Ocean County, while working as a risk manager in the municipal insurance field. After its success skyrocketed, she decided to expand her social service work by obtaining her degree in the field. She graduated magna cum laude from Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ with a degree in generalist social work, and a year later graduated with her Masters in Social Work from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ.

Her major concentration, International and Community Development, is a unique program which has enabled her to move comfortably in areas such as non-profit creation, sustainable development projects, board development, fundraising and grantwriting, and the implementation of community collaboratives statewide. Most recently, she has lent her expertise to the newly developing Division of Prevention and Community Partnerships and the Division of Children’s Behavioral Health Services within the NJ Department of Human Services.

Active in areas of social justice, women and children’s issues, and cultural diversity, Tara is a member of several boards including the National Association of Social Workers, the Regional Perinatal Consortium of Monmouth/Ocean Counties, and the International Consortium of Social Development.
